Standing On His Promises

The importance of standing on God’s promises is to anchor your soul. As humans, we carry God’s Holy Spirit within us, so His promises lie within us as well. It’s the everyday thoughts that come to mind that distract us from God’s promises and keep us trapped in toxic or unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.

Questions to ask yourself:
How long have you been in this mental place you now stand? How long have you had your current habits? Do they benefit you? How long will you let distraction control your destiny?

Standing on God’s promises means meditating on His words, studying, and memorizing what God says so that when distracting thoughts come in, you can replace them with His word. This practice will renew your mind and remind you of who God says you are; it will build in you an unbreakable confidence in The Lord.

Let His word consume you, so you will not be consumed by the world or the enemy.

Once you know who God has created you to be by memorizing the promises He has for you, He will be able to do so much more in your life. I have listed a few promises to get you started, and I’m sure you are familiar with most of these.

God’s Promises to Ponder:

Joshua 1:5 No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.
Isaiah 41:10Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.    Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you.    I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Philippians 4:19And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 7:7Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
Romans 8:28And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
James 1:12God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
2 Peter 1:4And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

There are over 3,000 promises in the word of God. I have listed more below, but study His word and identify which promises He highlights to you!

Here are some practical steps to immerse yourself in God’s word. The goal is to study His word DAILY:

  • Set a time reminder on your phone to meditate on His word.
  • Write out the verses highlighted to you on notecards and study them in your downtime.
  • Write the verses on sticky notes as affirmations and place them on your mirrors or on your desk in your workspace.
  • Practice: Write out the verse 5 times for memory.
  • Create a screensaver on your phone or computer.
  • Exercise: Journal Prompt – Write out God’s promise and describe how His promise has shown up in your life that day or week.

Consistency is key. Until we put God first and seek His Word intently, our minds will never change, and we will continue to move at a slow pace, repeating the same lessons.

Let God transform you with His word and anchor your soul in His goodness and peace.

Don’t come out of hiding without your spiritual sword! The sword of the Spirit, as discussed in Ephesians 6:13-17, should be your primary weapon. I encourage you to hold on to it because, without it, you might find yourself retreating to your hiding place. I’ve come out of hiding many times, only to return just as often because, despite hearing God’s call, I didn’t anchor my soul and thoughts in what He promised me when I stepped out. Consequently, I found myself ill-prepared without my weapon.

Don’t disappoint yourself by not trusting Him.

This is what it means to take His hand: anchoring your soul in His word!

Love,

Woo

Tia Shyne Muse, a gospel singer, has a song titled “Standing on His Promises” that has lifted me through some of my most doubtful times. It never fails to remind and encourage me of God’s promises. I encourage you to download it if you haven’t heard it and let it bless you.
